What is Food Intolerance?

24 Apr, 2018

Food intolerance is when your body reacts abnormally to certain foods, and can manifest in a range of symptoms including gut problems, skin issues, fatigue, headaches and migraines, and respiratory problems. It can be difficult to pinpoint which foods are the culprit, because although symptoms sometimes occur soon after eating, they can take hours or even days to appear.

People with food intolerances often have more than one symptom and describe themselves as feeling as though they have “brain fog”, are bloated and always tired.

Food intolerances should not be confused with food allergies, which usually occur soon after eating a food and causes symptoms such as sneezing, rashes, skin irritation, swelling, runny nose, fatigue, diarrhoea and vomiting. The severity of symptoms can range in severity, from mild hay fever to anaphylaxis which can be fatal.

Some symptoms of food intolerance are:

Anxiety
Arthritis
Asthma
Bed wetting
Bloating
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Constipation
Diarrhoea
Fibromyalgia
Gastritis
Headaches
Insomnia
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Itchy skin problems
Malabsorption
Migraine
Sleep disturbances
Water retention
Weight control problems

At Knox Chiropractic & Wellness, you now have the option of being tested for food intolerances, without the need for blood samples to be sent to a laboratory.

An IgG testing appointment with Kirsten our naturopath takes approximately 90 minutes and the results are available immediately.
